About

Why a thirty-year SEO built a meter.

I started in search in 1996, when optimisation meant meta tags and AltaVista. I’ve worked through Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird and mobile-first, for Fortune 500 brands and for plumbers with one truck. Most of that work is under NDA, which is why my public record is teardowns rather than logos.

Somewhere in 2024 the question owners asked me changed. It stopped being “why don’t we rank?” and became “does ChatGPT recommend us?” — and there was no honest, cheap way to answer it. The tools were black boxes. The agencies wanted a retainer before they’d look. So I built the thing I wished I could hand people: a meter that shows its work.

What Duly Noted is

A reading, not a promise.

It asks the four assistants the questions your customers ask and records what they say. It checks your site against the things that stop AI crawlers from reading or trusting it. It shows you the evidence. That’s all it is, and it’s enough to make the next decision well.

What it isn't

It isn't The SEO Savant.

My consulting practice takes three clients at a time, starts with a two-week written audit, and costs what thirty years of judgment costs. Duly Noted is deliberately not that. It’s the front door — the cheap, honest first step, so that when someone does hire me, we both already know where they stand. Read about the practice →

Principles

Evidence beside every claim

If the report says you’re absent, it shows you the answer you’re absent from.

No black boxes

The method is public. The questions are public. The checks are deterministic.

The meter doesn't sell the repair

The report tells you what’s wrong whether or not you ever hire anyone. Fixing is a separate, priced decision.

Candour over comfort

If your problem is your offer, not your visibility, the report — and I — will say so.
